Our Story
Torrs Farm has been owned by the Picken Family since 1950, having previously operated as tenant farmers for a number of years.
A dairy and sheep farm, with a rich tradition of raising Clydesdale Horses, John and Andrew, both 4th generation, returned home in 2015 and 2019 respectively, to take over the running of the farm from parents James and Lindsay.

Domes & Diversification
It wasn’t until returning home from travelling in 2015 that I (John) really noticed just how beautiful our farm was, and first started thinking about diversification into holiday accommodation. We always knew the site we would like to build on but didn’t know what kind of accommodation we would offer. With a lot of traditional log cabins in the area, we felt we needed something different to help us stand out.
When we were first introduced to the domes we were blown away! They offered the perfect blend of reconnecting with nature and the luxury of a 5-star hotel, and we were immediately sold on the idea. The planning application was submitted in November of 2019 and, after a long wait, finally approved in January 2022. In June of that year we broke ground and Domes 1 and 2 were on their way. Exciting times at Torrs Farm!

Katrina & John
Sauna at the Sea is a business built by two friends who wanted to share with people the chance to discover the health and wellness benefits of sauna and cold water therapy. Our aim is to provide an opportunity to take time for yourself, forget daily stresses, switch off and enjoy our escape at the sea.
Our Sauna at the Sea experience is for everyone. Whether you are looking to benefit from the number of health benefits that the Sauna alone can offer or experience the amazing effects of hot and cold therapy combined. Trust us, there is nothing else that can shock you out of your own head and into your body the way cold water can!

What’s next?
Fast forward to March 2023, the business prepares to welcome its first guests, with Pegasus and Orion available to book. Their success was immediate and a decision was made to purchase an additional two domes. In July 2024, we opened the doors of Hercules and Andromeda to the public.
Later that month, we celebrated the wedding of our sister Emma to husband Sibo, on the farm. Emma had always dreamed of getting married overlooking the Torrs cliffs, with breathtaking views of Ross Island and the Isle of Man, and she was determined to make it a reality. The day was a huge success—glorious weather and a stunning location made it unforgettable. Could this be our next venture? Watch this space!
